By-Car Hire Guide To The Canary Islands

Although the Canary Islands are part of Spain, they are located off the coast of Africa, meaning that they have a wonderful climate that attracts sun-worshippers throughout the year.

Canary Islands Overview

There are seven main islands in the group (Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and el Hierro) together with a few smaller islands.

Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote are the main tourist destinations, and offer many attractions including theme parks, museums and sports activities, but Fuerteventura, La Palma and La Gomera are becoming more popular with people who want to get away from it all on a relaxing holiday.

One of the most notable features of the Canary Islands is that they have volcanic landscapes which results in some spectacular scenery together with black volcanic beaches alongside the golden sandy ones. To really appreciate this natural scenery and to visit the many attractions that each island has to offer, you'll need to hire a car. If you want to see some of the less well-explored areas of the Canary Islands, you may even want to consider hiring a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Getting to the Canary Islands and Canary Islands Car Hire

Many major European airports operate flights to the Canary Islands, with most flights travelling to the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote. The islands of Fuerteventura, La Gomera and La Palma also have airports, and it's easy to island-hop by flying from one island to another. There are also many inter-island ferries and catamarans, so getting to the island of your choice should be straightforward.

The best way to truly experience what each island has to offer is to hire a car. Hire cars are available on Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife.
