Val d'Isère is a popular ski resort nestled in the French Alps. A favourite with British and French holiday makers, the resort has over 300km of marked runs and unlimited off-piste skiing, making it an ideal location for skiers of all abilities.

Val d'Isère is part of an area known as L'Espace Killy, which is set to host the World Ski Championships in 2009. The area's snow coverage is among the best in Europe, thanks to its proximity to the Alps, which means that skiing is available at Val d'Isère until the very end of the season.

Other activities available at the resort include dog-sledding, snowshoeing, ice driving, ice climbing, ice skating and parasailing.

With twenty different bars and over 60 restaurants, the après-ski scene in Val d'Isère is a lively one. Each bar is different, so there is something for all tastes, while the restaurants offer dishes ranging from Savoyard specialties to haute cuisine.

Although there is plenty to do in Val d'Isère itself, you'll need to hire a car if you fancy taking a break from the slopes and exploring the area. Getting to Val d'Isère and Val d'Isère Car Hire

The nearest major airports to Val d'Isere are Lyon Saint Exupery Airport and Geneva Cointrin International Airport, and you can hire a car at either of these airports and drive to Val d'Isère. There is also a smaller airport at Chambéry, and again, hire car is available here.

The closest train station to Val d'Isère is situated in Bourg-St-Maurice, about 30km away from the resort. There is an office at the station where you can hire a car to drive to Val d'Isère.
