By-Car Hire Guide To Cannes

Cannes is an up-market destination with clean sandy beaches, warm weather and great shops. Situated on the south-east coast of France, this town is a perfect base for anyone wanting to explore to the south of France by hire car.

Cannes Overview

The town is most famous its annual film festival. Launched in 1947, the Cannes Film Festival is now regarded by many as the most important film festival in the world, and the main award on offer, the Palme d'Or, is highly coveted by film directors.

Fashion is big in Cannes, and this is reflected in the wide range of designer clothing outlets throughout the city. Many of these stores can be found along La Croisette, the main seafront promenade, which runs from the new Palais des Festivals, which is used as a venue for the Cannes Film Festival and is known for its superb sound and lighting systems, to La Pointe Croisette.

The old town area, known as Le Suquet, is located on the top of a hill, and is home to the 17th century Eglise Notre-Dame d'Espérance, and the Musée de la Castret, which includes archaeological and ethnographic exhibits together with a collection of musical instruments from around the world. The museum is housed in the medieval Le Castre Castle.

Many of the town's beaches are private, and you will need to pay a fee to use them. However, if you hire a car when you're staying in Cannes, you can drive to one of the many nearby beach resorts where you can sunbathe and swim for free.

Getting to Cannes and Cannes Car Hire

Cannes is served by the small Cannes Airport, which is located about 6km north of the town, and you can hire a car here. Other airports nearby include Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport and Marseille Provence Airport, and you can hire a car at either of these and drive to Cannes.
